Curlers and Bulldogs

Filed under: news — andy @ 8:15 am

Has anyone been to the Duluth Curling Club during a UMD hockey game?  First time for me was last night, when I was in Canal Park on non-curling related activities with a friend and decided to stop in for a beer at the Silver Broom Lounge (that’s what the bar at the DCC is called, apparently) at around 7:30.

It was empty, nobody curling, and only a few people at the bar.  Patrons were vastly outnumbered by employees.  Despite this, we were made to don wristbands identifying us as legitimate members.  We sat at the bar and enjoyed our beverages, watching the UMD game on  TV.  As the first period wound down, people started to arrive– then more and more, and the place was soon standing room only full of rowdy students wearing Bulldog regalia.  Pitchers were filled and emptied, trays of shots were ordered, and a dozen plastic cups full of “Scoobie Snacks”, which looked like yellow Pepto Bismo, sat on the bar rail largely untouched.

UMD beat Denver 2 – 1.  Duluth really is a great town, isn’t it?

  1. I am deeply concerned that the Scooby Snacks went untouched. It’s unlike the hockey fans that I know.
