The other side of the green wall was rocking last night. . .
In case you missed it, you can watch Pete Fenson’s appearance on the NBC Today show online. Click on the “curling on the Rockefeller rink” link to see the host get a quick lesson in delivery. We’ll have to wait until December 23 to watch the game.
The Korbel Elite Challenge will be held today; the match will be televised on NBC in late November. This will be a six end match between Bemidji’s Pete Fenson and Sweden’s Peja Lindholm.
The most interesting thing about this match is its venue: It will take place in New York City, outdoors, at Rockefeller Plaza. As if making good curling ice on a recreational skating rink wasn’t enough of a challenge, the weather also may pose a problem. Check out JHCurl’s blog for on location coverage. Pete Fenson also is scheduled to appear on NBC’s Today show this morning (10/26/2007).

The first stones of the season were thrown by new curlers at the New Curlers’s Clinic. There was a pretty good turnout, and it looked like everyone was having a good time. There are two more clinics, this thursday (tomorrow) and friday at 6pm.

According to this website, the ice at the Duluth Curling Club will be ready for practice on Wednesday, October 24. I can’t wait!
CurlDuluth.com reader SS sent in the picture below, which shows one of the crack DCC ice makers painting the house with a squeeze bottle of ketchup.

The 2007 St. Paul Cashspiel has concluded, and the Disher rink from the Killarney Curling Club in Manitoba came out on top. John Shuster’s team missed the playoffs, but had a respectable 4 wins and 3 losses.
There is some good coverage on CurlTV.com.
Well it looks like the Duluth Curling Club has decided to do what most other clubs do, and charge membership dues based on how many leagues you play in. The basic membership fee will get you in one league, then you pay an extra $30 to play in additional leagues.
I think that the old system of paying one set rate for unlimited leagues was a great bargain, and its sad to see it go. But I can understand the economics of it. Compared to the dues at other clubs, the DCC is still a great value. What do you think?
*Correction: The fee to play in additional leagues is $40, not $30.
OK, enough with ethanol metabolism, its time to start thinking about curling! I’m signed up for league play, how about you?
