While waiting for ice at the DCC, I’ve been thinking of how I can improve my delivery. I hadn’t considered using a laser pointer before– does anyone know the thinking behind this drill?
Anyone interested in helping out with some painting the area behind the glass should come to the Duluth Curling Club at 11am on Sunday, Oct. 26 (tomorrow).
If anyone has any anti-gremlin spray, please bring it to the Duluth Curling Club and apply it to the ice plant. Last night another pipe broke and shut down the ice plant, subsequently melting all the hard work of the ice crew. Once the plant is repaired, they will start over again, but the start of the curling season will unfortunately be delayed. The open houses scheduled for next week have been cancelled, and the current projected opening for league curling will be Monday, Nov. 3.
Ice making at the Duluth Curling Club is back on track after a brief mechanical setback, and it should be ready for rocks in time for league play.

A team of Duluth Curling Club members worked on cleaning up some of the accumulated grime on Monday night, and the club’s appearance is much improved (as long as the lights are kept dim).

Finally: Attention gum chewing curlers– the bottoms of the tables and chairs in the club lounge are not appropriate places to dispose of you unwanted gum.

All Duluth Curling Club members are invited to come down on Monday, October 20th, for a club cleanup from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Curling season starts soon, so let’s make sure our club shines!
Although I haven’t signed on to the zombie craze embraced by a subset of America’s hipsters, this is one project that has my wholehearted support: Deadspiel, a movie about a curling match between humans and former humans (i.e. zombies). Deadspiel will premiere October 19, 2008 at the Bloor Theater in Toronto as part of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. According to the father of the film’s producer, Deadspiel is “The greatest curling zombie movie ever made”. I hope we get a chance to see this movie south of the border!
I am putting together a calendar of bonspiels and other assorted curling events in the Northland. The link is at the top of the column to the right, or you can click here. Let me know if I have overlooked anything, or if you want your event included. You can email me at andy@curlduluth.com.
